Myrtle
The myrtle is a small evergreen tree or shrub which is native to the Mediterranean and northern Africa and has been used as a house plant since ancient times. Also known as Myrtus or Cerejeira.
The Myrtle topiary is a perfect decorative accessory that add texture, interest and a pop of fresh color, not to mention the fact that they’re just so beautiful and elegant!
Specifications:
Appearance: The leaves are small, lanceolate and dark green. The small white fragrant flowers appear in late summer, followed by pea sized bluish black fruit which contain up to 30 seeds.
Enjoys: Myrtle topiary love sunlight! The flowering myrtle will thrive indoors in high sunlight and appreciates being kept outdoor during the spring and summer (just not in direct sunlight, or it will burn)
Care: For watering, give about 1 cup every 10 days; keep soil even moist without letting it dry out. The best lighting conditions will be near a window that receives filtered indirect sunlight. Fertilize during the spring and summer months if indoors; more frequently if outdoors.
Temp: 65-85° F
Growth: Indoors or outdoors, can grow up to several feet tall
Level of Simplicity: Not for beginners
Toxicity: Oils on new leaves can be toxic upon ingestion (to cats, dogs)
